Awoke
on the floor
and I can see
the gray snow sky
though the open window.
Drove to the city
on the one day of the year
when I see the woman I love
and told her:
You are free.
Walked until
until I met a cold man
with his black eyes and coffee cup
and told him:
You are free.
Walked until the concrete
ended and the gray grass began
where my dog used to run
like the world would never end
and set him free.
Found the house
where I grew up
and my mother and father
and told them:
You are free.
Walked home
opened all of the doors
opened all of the windows
and lay on the floor
It's what I like
now that I am free.
