where were you
when the seas went blue
and the moon
grew as big
as a coin?
where were you
when the sand went blue
as I stuffed my bag
with its treasures
picked the silk flags
torn by the mountains
india inked with prayers
and caught in my hair
(once gold and yellow blazons)
sought the gems in the dunes
roiling like lions in the reeds
tomorrows laid out like fish
flapping before a starlet
this sand
is the only gold for me
my riches fill my bags
and they wash my feet
