strike the curtains
light the kettle
and crawl back into bed
consider:
the floor of the sea
under the weight of the world
a night more loveless
than any empty room
those massive deserts of cloud
sailing beneath the ceiling
raining daggers on the curled and freezing
the scream of new york
the minarets of dawn
and the deadpan of a desert
consider that undiscovered
gray waste
locked inside your head
and the sun disusbstantiated,
set in the east
and resurrected enlightened
in your brain
the gregorian calendar
crumbles
consider how easy it would be
to cling to that bed
as the whole world spins
I openly draw maps,
now, name things
good English names --
countries and kingdoms:
pack my bags
and leave with the dawn
